Male northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) puffing its feathers for warmth while perched on branch during cold winter day in Ohio. This is the northernmost cardinal species and is found throughout the eastern U.S., southeastern Canada, and eastern Mexico. Males have much more vibrant colors than females and are slightly larger in size.
