Rotifer, a common multicellular organism, observed in municipal sewage treatment water. Microorganisms like these, as well as bacteria, nematodes and other metazoans perform an important function by decomposing organic matter found in sewage water and helping remove contaminates during the aerobic treatment process. This one is beating the cilia lining its corona in order to create water currents that draw in bacteria, its favorite food. Recorded under Nomarski DIC with a horizontal field of view of approximately 800 microns.
