Goose barnacles being removed from a loggerhead turtle. A juvenile loggerhead turtle, (Caretta caretta) has a large cluster goose barnacles (Lepas anatifera) removed from its shell. Goose barnacles are cirripedian crustaceans which have long stalks with which they cement themselves to their host surface. An excess of goose barnacles attached to its shell can affect a young turtle's swimming, and therefore its chance of survival. Filmed off the Azores, North Atlantic Ocean.
