Redox reaction between acidified potassium permanganate solution and hydrogen peroxide. The permanganate is acidified using sulphuric acid (1.00 M, 20.0 mL), before hydrogen peroxide solution (35%, 20.0 mL) is added. Initially the manganese is in the +7 oxidation state, making it a powerful enough oxidising agent to oxidise the hydrogen peroxide to oxygen gas, which is seen bubbling off. The manganese itself is reduced from the purple Mn(7+) state to the colourless Mn(2+) state, leaving the solution colourless.
