Aurora Borealis, timelapse. Also known as the Northern lights, this phenomenon is caused by the collision of high energy particles from the solar wind with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). The charged particles are directed by the Earth's magnetic field to the polar regions meaning aurorae usually only occur between three to six degrees latitude. Filmed in Kiruna, Lapland, Sweden.
