Purple sunbird (Nectarinia asiatica) on wet leaves of a banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis). The banyan is known locally as bargad, and is the national tree of India. The purple sunbird has a curved bill and tubular tongue, and is well adapted for feeding on the nectar of flowers. Like other sunbirds, they feed mainly on nectar, although they also hunt for insects, especially when feeding their young. Filmed Dudhwa National Park, Uttar Pradesh, India.
