TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) biopsy procedure. Surgeon inserts two bougies transurethrally via the patient's penis, widening the passage to the bladder. Next a resectoscope is inserted complete with irrigation, illumination, endoscope and electrical cutting loop. This procedure is used to excise tissue from the inner part (core) of the prostate to treat the symptoms of urethral obstruction due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate) or prostate cancer.
