This is an oxidation reduction reaction, where the elemental copper is oxidised to form a Cu2+ cation and the Ag+ cation is reduced to form elemental silver, seen to precipitate onto the copper wire. The colourless silver nitrate is converted into copper nitrate with its characteristic blue colour.
