Stepped leaders head downwards from the base of the cloud, attempting to find a channel through which they can discharge. Eventually, halfway through the clip, some leaders reach the ground, leading to a bright flash as the discharge occurs. Filmed at 7200 frames per second, in South Dakota, USA, in spring.
