Toluca meteorite fragment. This is a section through the meteorite showing a Widmanstatten pattern. This distinctive criss-cross pattern is found in iron-nickel meteorites that have been cut and etched with acid. The structures form from crystal growth during slow cooling inside larger chunks of iron-nickel meteorites. This meteorite was found near Toluca, Mexico, in 1776, but is thought to have fallen over 1000 years ago.
