Chlamydomonas algae, light microscopy. These single-celled (unicellular) organisms are a form of green algae, living in freshwater habitats. They are motile, using their two tail-like flagella to move through the water. During the reproductive cycle, individual cells form clumps and eventually pair off to form dormant reproductive structures called zygotes.
