Bactrian camels (Camelus bactrianus), thermogram footage. Thermography records the temperature of surfaces by detecting long-wavelength infrared radiation. The colours show variations in temperature. The scale runs from white (warmest), through yellow, orange, red and purple to blue (coldest). This camel is native to the steppes of Central Asia. It has two humps as opposed to the much more common single-humped dromedary camel. The Bactrian camel has been used as a pack animal for thousands of years. This footage shows that the most heat (bright yellow areas) is being radiated from the camel's nose, mouth and eyes. Fur insulates the rest of the body.
