Golden algae. Microscope footage of colonies of golden algae (Dinobryon sp.) moving through water amongst other motile algae. Dinobryon is a freshwater genus. Colonies grow as unbranched or branched chains (as seen here), and the individual cells are surrounded by vase-shaped receptacles called loricae. This sample was collected from Dolbryn Ponds, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK and imaged with phase contrast illumination.
