ATLAS detector at CERN. Timelapse footage of a technical service taking place at the ATLAS detector at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory, Geneva, Switzerland. The workers are ascending on an aerial work platform and securing a piece of equipment with a crane before removing it. ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) is one of seven particle detectors constructed at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC, the world's largest and most powerful particle collider, began operating in 2008. Results from ATLAS, a detector the size of a 5-storey building, helped discover a particle consistent with the Higgs boson in 2012. Footage obtained in November 2014.
