Moon's shadow over the Earth during a solar eclipse. Time-lapse footage showing the path of the total solar eclipse of March 9, 2016. The moon's shadow starts over the Indian Ocean and continues past Indonesia, Australia and Oceania. The dark central part, the umbra, is the region in which a total eclipse is seen from Earth. A partial eclipse is visible from the surrounding paler penumbra. This animation was assembled from images acquired by NASA-'s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) onboard the DSCOVR satellite.
