Astronauts Gordon Cooper and Charles Conrad are sealed inside their capsule before launch of the Gemini 5 mission, 21 August 1965. The mission broke the record for spaceflight duration, lasting just under 8 days. Project Gemini was an American human spaceflight programme which ran from 1961 to 1966. The Gemini spacecraft carried a two-astronaut crew, and ten crews flew low Earth orbit missions between 1965 and 1966.
