Apparatus used to distil the ester butyl ethanoate from its reaction vessel. In this set-up, the flask at left contains the mixture to be distilled. It is heated from below, with a thermometer above. To the right is a condenser, around which cold water flows. This cools the gases, condensing them back into a liquid, which drips down the tube at far right. Different components will boil off at different temperatures, so knowing the temperature allows control of the compound collected. See clip K004 1223 for the product dripping from the tube.
