Scanning electron microscope (SEM) view of the claw at the end of a leg of a glasswing butterfly (Greta oto). The leg is covered in fine hairs and scales, and terminates in a segment called the tarsus, which bears the claw. The glasswing butterfly is named as its wings are not covered in colourful scales as is the case with most butterflies, instead having large transparent areas more like the wings of other insects.
